Kingsley Tavern Offers Something for Everyone

Popular as a lunch and dinner spot on the weekends, both Kent School students and locals gather at the Kingsley Tavern, one of Kent’s most prominent restaurants. Although its name includes the word ‘tavern’, Kingsley is more of a place for students and local families to commune and create special memories, rather than to just drink and munch on bar food. The patrons visiting the restaurant range from young children to senior citizens and it is a favorite among both American and international students. The diverse menu is what attracts many guests.

For brunch, Kingsley offers American menu items such as Chicken & Waffles ($14) and Steak & Cheese Hash ($13) as well as Mexican options such as Fish Tacos ($16) and Pork Belly Tacos ($18). In addition to the Kingsley burger, customers can add Kimchi, a Korean spicy pickled cabbage side dish representative of Korean cuisine. At dinner and on weekends, the restaurant offers vegetarian options such as risotto ($27) and vegan options like vegan burgers ($18). Despite the relatively high prices, Kingsley is always overflowing with families and friends as it offers a private, but casual, environment perfect for sharing a great meal. The restaurant seats 25 patrons (15 additional seats are available in the sectioned off private space) and is decorated with modern artwork, flowers, and candles. There is also outdoor seating as well as seating at the bar to enjoy drinks, providing a different atmosphere from the indoor dining area.

In a New York Times article on Kingsley Tavern, owner and chef Anna Gowan remarks, “One of the challenges in this town [is] trying to appeal not just to the local working crowd, but also to a broad cross-section of the population.” Thus, Kingsley offers a variety of food options that can appeal to anyone from any country, and this has made Kingsley very successful. The waiters and waitresses are well-trained, and patrons can expect top service when they receive their delicious meals. If any family or friends are planning to have lunch or dinner in town, you should definitely try Kingsley!
