Following on the heels of a breakthrough season, the Kent School varsity diving team is looking to match the accomplishments of last year.

This year the team has double the number of divers than last year, indicating both the success of the program and student excitement about the sport. With all of its new members and veteran returners, the team has been working diligently in the weight room and in the water to surpass last year’s landmark accomplishments.

The team’s first meet is Saturday, December 12th at Brunswick School. Captain Leila Sachner ’16, anticipates ” a very exciting meet” and says they hope “to display our talent and come back with the win.”

Team spirit is very high this year as they have a lot of confidence going into the season. Their first home meet isn’t until after break, but they’re hoping for a major turnout. When asked about how she thinks the season will go, Sachner said, “There is a lot of potential for our team this year, and as long as we stick to our rigorous practice schedule, we will do very well.”

Cross training has been a large factor in the team’s practices. The team has incorporated yoga, weight lifting, and cardio, in order to build the proper frame needed to support the twists and flips in each dive.

Coach Ms. Haley Prickett wants the kids to enjoy the season, and has chosen a motto for the team: “A day without laughter is a day wasted.” Says Prickett, “If you enjoy what you are doing, you will do it better.”

Overall the team is in high spirits with a lot of confidence and should do very well this season. Captain Brett Cataldo ’16, says, “The team will have a great shot at making a run for the New England championship title.”
