This season was a tremendous success for Kent’s Diving squad. Although made up of only six athletes, the team is one of the most dedicated groups here at Kent, and they have recent results from Founders and New Englands Championships to prove it.

Ryder Sammons ’15 broke both the 6 dive and 11 dive school records, while managing to win Founders Championship and Class B New Englands. For those who are not too familiar with interscholastic diving regulations, a diver can do 6 dives at every meet, for which the scores are tallied up. Participating in a 11 dive invitational at Canterbury was especially beneficial because the meet was a crucial practice before Founders and New Englands Championships that require 11 dives.

Besides a single distinguished player, the whole team was “amazing,” according to Leila Sachner ’15, a returning driver. “The group dynamic,” Sachner says, “was awesome this year because everyone was encouraging and helped each other learn new dives.”

Such team support was essential in training new divers who started out with no prior diving experience. After fourteen weeks of training and helping each other out, all four new divers know 11 dives, which is required for any interscholastic Championships.

Overall, the team ended the season with a strong note as Brett Cataldo ’16 won 3rd place in Founders and 2nd in New Englands, while Leila Sachner ’16 won 4th place in New Englands. Congratulations for a fantastic season, Lions!
