Kent’s boys varsity baseball team opened up its season against a tough and talented Trinity-Pawling. On a rainy afternoon the Lions struggled, letting up five runs in the opening inning. However, throughout the next six innings, Kent showed its mettle and determination, holding the hammering T-P offense to only one run. These Lions demonstrated something more than what the 6-1 score line showed.

After a wobbly start, pitcher Chris Alberigi ’16 exhibited an impressive talent. He had three strikeouts combined with a 2-1 hit ratio and a stolen base. Even during his low points in the game, he maintained a cool confidence on the mound and the plate.

The Kent Lions received even more help from Bert Dorman ’16, Jimmy Sullivan ‘15, Greg Krisberg ‘16, Brian Kelly ’16 and Alex Quartararo ‘15. Dorman showed high baseball IQ from behind the plate, dialing up different pitch counts and making some strong plays for his team. The outfield was held together by Krisberg and Kelly, while Sullivan put up a solid defense on third base. Quartararo hit a beautiful home run over the right field boundary, giving Kent its run of the day.

Although the Lions picked up their pace in later innings, the jittery start gave T-P an insurmountable lead. Kent baseball, however, look forward to bounce right back up from its loss in its next game against Brunswick School.
