Girls Varsity Basketball fights on against Hotchkiss

On Saturday, the 21st of February, the Kent girls varsity basketball team played Hotchkiss in its final home game of the season. Although the Lions lost, the final score of 34-42 shows our girls worked tenaciously to put up a great fight.

Kent started the game strong. Good communication and solidarity among the teammates helped them make great passes near the 3-point zone. The line of defense also made remarkable interceptions. The throbbing energy surrounded the court, stirring a strong and wildly supportive crowd.

By half time, the teams were tied at 17-17, but unfortunately, as the game came to its close, Hotchkiss managed to get ahead of our girls and take the win back to Lakeville, CT.

After her last home game, captain Shayla Lamb ’15, a starting player on team since her freshman year, comments, “It’s definitely been the best season I’ve had at Kent. It was a rough season, but during the last games we’ve really come together as a team nicely.”

Lamb also praised the Head Coach Jayde Bennett for instilling the value of teamwork and determination. The players’ smooth communication on court and relentless style of play are pure proof that Ms. Bennett’s coaching and groundwork have cultivated an impressive team this season.

With only one more game left in the season, the girls are hoping finish off strong and bring home a win in their final game against Choate.

After the final game, unfortunately, four seniors will leave the team. For the entire season, however, they definitely left their mark on the team. Shayla Lamb was happy to say that “the younger girls improved a lot this year,” and that with continued hard work and vigor, she expects from them “a great season” in the coming year.
