Heartbreaking 1-point loss at the buzzer

On Saturday, January 17, Kent boys varsity basketball team suffered its first lost in NEPSAC Class A league against Trinity-Pawling School. Kent had the opportunity to win or tie the game in the final seconds. Unfortunately, the final put-back bounced twice on the rim and fell off as the buzzer sounded, and Kent finally accepted its tough one-point loss to Trinity-Pawling.

As the head coach Coulombe recalls that Kent boys were “in control of nearly the entire game.” Taking a 10-point lead into halftime, the team maintained at least a 6-point advantage throughout most of the second half. The poor defensive rebounding, however, allowed Trinity-Pawling to stay close.

According to coach Coulombe, “uncharacteristic turnovers down the stretch” of Kent players gave Trinity-Pawling a chance to catch up and take its final lead at 59-58 with only 15 seconds remaining.

Despite the dramatic ending of the game, every single Kent player performed at his best level. After this close match with Trinity Pawling, Kent went to Suffield Academy, dominating the game from the start to finish, eventually winning 62-37.

Next up is Berkshire School from the NEPSAC Class B league. Come to the Gowan Court on Saturday, January 24 to support the fellow Lions. Let’s go Kent!
