Kent’s Girls Varsity Softball starting the season strong with a 3-game win streak. The team 14 girls, led by captains Kyle Marano ‘23, Margaret Yemington ‘23, and Kennedy Graham ‘24, is coached by Mr. Wright and Mr. Lennon.
Despite it being Mr. Wright’s first year as head softball coach, he has much to say about the experience. “I’ve enjoyed it very much,” he says. “The girls have been really excited, are extremely motivated to do well, and always play every game to its entirety.” As a previous baseball coach and Kent alumnus, Mr. Wright admires how each individual player has the work ethic to show up to every practice and game. He also acknowledges the captains who work hard to support the core of the team. Although softball is a tough sport, our outstanding players — from new underformers to the senior captains — work together as a group to compete in the upcoming League.
After the strong start came some close losses, but the team is jumping back on track, scoring a 4-2 win against Loomis and a 5-2 win against Canterbury in their most recent games last week.
When describing the rest of the season, Mr. Wright says, “We’re probably right in the middle of our pack in the League, and I’m anticipating to move forward and win these next number of all-star games, and go to the playoffs.” He expresses confidence to win and end the season on a positive note.
