The Girls Varsity Softball Team, 2009 Founder’s League Champions, have been having a great season so far. With 8 wins and 3 losses, they are placed on the 2nd spot of class A softball, while being supported by their captains Dagny Peters ’22, Erin Donlan ’22, Molly Lennon ’22, and Katie D’Antonio ’22. Although the team hasn’t been able to go to their usual Florida trip before the season for the past two years due to the pandemic, Mr. Zurolo describes the girls being able to pick up the game pretty fast.

The goal of the season has been to “have a good experience and have fun, but also to be a competitive varsity team and enjoy the learning process,” Mr. Zurolo shares.

Last week, Kent took on the “undefeatable” Choate team, and stayed strong with the score of 0-0 by the fifth inning before Choate unfortunately scored 7 runs later in the game. However, the Saturday game against Loomis JV Team may have been one of the best games for the softball team so far. After scoring 5 runs in the first part of the game, Kent stayed very focused, despite the number of Loomis fans, and successfully ended the game with the win of 6-4.

This has been the 7th season for Mr. Zurolo, the Softball Head Coach. “I enjoy watching the players grow and develop over the season, and I like the process of going from the beginning of the season, where our team may be a little bit shaky, to the mid season where we demonstrate the best of our skill,” he shares. “It’s also important to be the best teammate you can be, work hard on the field, and leave the school studies behind.”

While the softball team has been demonstrating dedication, and the willingness to improve on the fields, there have been two commitments to continue playing softball in college: Lennon ’22, who will continue her academic and sports career in Wesleyan University, and Donlan, who has committed to Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
