Musician Profile: Zoe Benjamin

Playing a major role in the fall play Henry IV: Part One, singing in the choir, and participating in the musical, Zoe Benjamin ’20 is already famous in the Kent community for her excellence in both music and theatre arts.

Benjamin’s interests in performing arts started at the age of eight when she went to a week-long musical theater workshop, which opened a new world of art for her. She then began to learn singing and dancing with her teacher. Benjamin’s love towards art motivated her to further develop her talents after coming to Kent.

As an experienced and enthusiastic actress, Benjamin stresses that art is expressive. She says the stage is a perfect platform for her to fully express herself. She also loves the feeling of putting herself into others’ shoes through acting.

Now doing dance as her activity, Benjamin dedicates her time to choreographing her own pieces as well as participating in the group pieces. She weaves her stories and emotions in the choreographing and dancing. Also, She seeks to broaden her skills by learning jazz and ballet.

When talking about her future expectation towards performing arts at Kent, Benjamin expresses her excitement towards the dance show and the spring musical. Moreover, she is planning to take some courses in visual arts, such as photography, ceramics and painting. In the future, Benjamin hopes to study musical theater in college and pursue her dream on Broadway one day.
