On Saturday, January 25th, Kent boys varsity basketball played against Berkshire. The Lions came out strong playing an aggressive full court press, trapping the ball at half court. This caused many turnovers, and easy points off of fast breaks.

By halftime the score was 25-14, Kent leading. Post-Graduate Brandon Horvath noted that Kent “figured it out in the second half,” outscoring Berkshire 22-4, and finishing the game with a score of 58-18. With this win Kent improved their record to 8-5. Randall Brumant ‘17 led Kent in scoring with 20 points, followed by Horvath with 16.

Berkshire was in a 2-3 zone the entire game, while Kent played man. Coach Heslop said that “from the scoreline it might seem like we played well but we didn’t.” Horvath also noted that “we could have payed a lot better.”  Kent was missing two of their starters for this game, Austin Lavitt ‘17with a right ankle injury, and Jordan Burns ‘17 with the flu.

Coach Heslop saw many things to improve upon from this game. Though he was “happy with the win,” he notes that “it’s good for coaches when you can get a win and you didn’t play great so you can still go practice and grind.”

Kent has high hopes for this season. Horvath feels that the team will “start peaking soon” because the “guys love each other, they love playing with each other, they love playing for coach Coulombe.”
