Overtime Victory for Girls Hockey

On Wednesday, January 20, the Kent girls varsity hockey team took on the Pomfret girls and ended up victorious in overtime. The exciting match meant more than just another game to the Kent girls, as the Pomfret team was the team to knock Kent out of the championships last year. Going into the game, the Kent girls were certainly fired up and ready to play. Team manager Olivia Paxton ’16 comments, “our girls had the skill, the energy, and the desire to win and fortunately we were able to put it all together in order to come out on top.”

With Keely Moy ’17 out with a sprained ankle for the game, it was going to be an even tougher battle. Without Moy however, other players were able to step up to the circumstances and help lead the team to victory: Tina Paolillo ’18 scored the game tying goal to make it a 3-3 game and to push the teams into overtime and then did it again in overtime to win the game for Kent.

Said Paxton “the team this year has a great amount of skill and even though there are a lot of new and young players, the likelihood of continuing our good season is very high.” With many underformers on the varsity hockey team, the leadership roles on the team are even more important. Paxton goes on to say, “having the ability to show the younger girls how to play whilst being tired, how to keep their composure in difficult games, and many more are objectives of the upper formers on the team.”
