In an exciting scrimmage against Hotchkiss on Wednesday, January 6, the Kent girls varsity basketball team had a dramatic win. Despite a Hotchkiss guard’s impressive final buzzer-beater, the Kent School girls remained on top.

Early in the first half, Kent was able to earn a lead, and there was no turning back. The final score of 46-39 did not depict the true dominance the Lions demonstrated in all aspects of the game. Crashing the boards, draining threes, and maneuvering stellar post moves led to a good victory and an overall great game to watch.

Captain Lily Steigleman ’16 said after the game, “Our team played well enough to win, but there is certainly more untapped potential in us. Hopefully, as the season progresses, our team will continue to get better and have a successful year.” With any luck, they will be able to make a run for the championships.

It is apparent that this team put in a sufficient amount of work over the winter break not to fall behind their competition. The team is dedicated and hardworking, holding  captain’s practices and shoot-arounds even when the coaches cannot be present.

Looking toward the remainder of the season, Megan Landrigan ’15 says, “Our team wants to win and is willing to do what it takes in order to ensure that we are as good as we can be. This work ethic is something every team strives for, and I am happy to say that our team will always be ready for any team we face.”
