Girls Lacrosse Poised for Resurgence
April 27, 2015
The Kent varsity girls lacrosse team didn’t start their season in the chill of New England, but rather in the sunny paradise of Orlando, Florida. In the sunshine, the girls were able to build bonds before the season kicked off and showed solid promise in Florida by winning two of their three contests.
Since then the team has experienced a season of highs and lows. They started out by winning against Ethel Walker and Westover but then suffered defeats against Hotchkiss, Canterbury and an especially heart breaking loss against Suffield Academy in the last seconds of regulation.
Coach Cortney Tetrault says that these losses serve as “good learning experiences for the team,” and is hopeful that those lessons will soon pay dividends.
Made up of a number of underclassmen, the team has relied heavily on the play of Kent’s upperclassmen Anne Brainard ’15, Olivia Frzop ’16, both of whom put in goals for Kent in a loss against Hotchkiss, as well as Lucy Wemyss ’16 and Alex Flynn ’15.
Flynn, Kent’s starter at attack, is optimistic that good days are on the horizon for the Lions: “We are getting a lot better as the season progresses because we are building trust with each other and working as a team a lot better.”
Collectively, Kent is looking to turn their recent misfortunes around this Saturday against Pomfret. Coach Tetrault believes that the game, “Should be a good one.”
