The Kent Girls Varsity Squash team has had a balanced, competitive season so far, making great waves in growing their skills and mentality. Even though squash may be a single-player sport, the members of the team don’t hesitate to support each other in games and practices, offering advice and encouragement.
“We’re a tight-knit group,” says Norah Zhao ’27, now in her second year on the team. “We’re very good at supporting each other and helping each other become the best we can be.”
The team has also found improvement through targeted practicing. While practice matches are crucial for building a competitive skillset, Coach Weeks helps students target specialized skills in order to become more well-rounded players.
The captain of the team, Sohayla Wahba ’26, says that a focus of the season is to enjoy practices and games. They’ve had a good season so far, and she points to the game against a long-time rival, The Loomis Chaffee School, as a memorable win. It was a close game, having won four matches and lost three, and demonstrated the hard work that the team has been putting in this winter season.
The Girls Varsity Squash team is sure to rack up more wins against challenging opponents as the season progresses. They’re now preparing to play against Greenwich Academy on our very own home courts; they are tough contenders, but the girls are ready!
