Last Tuesday and Thursday, Kent hosted Revisit Days for accepted students and their families, while simultaneously seniors began their 57-day countdown to grad. This period fills the Kent Community with a special energy: excitement of incoming students mixed with the bittersweet nostalgia of the graduating class.
On the Revisit Days, all were warmly welcomed at the Nadal Hockey Rink by our Head of School, Mr. Hirchfeld. Then, Kent hosts accompanied visiting students to join their academic classes. Meanwhile, families were free to navigate the campus and attend information sessions about community life, academics, athletics, college counseling, etc.
Visiting students further integrated into the Kent community by having lunch in the dining hall, while some chose to dine in town, picking from restaurants presenting Asian, European, and American cuisines.
In the afternoon, all visitors attended a Student & Faculty Panel, an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about Kent, followed by a Special Interest Fair to inquire about clubs, arts and athletic programs. To wrap up the day, families could also go on a campus tour before optional visits to the equestrian center, musical rehearsals, arts studios, and/or athletic practices.
Throughout their time here, visitors could be seen conversing with Kent students and faculty, who were eager to greet them, provide directions, or simply have a chat. A significant portion of the fourth form boys, as requested by one of their form representatives, showed up in a full suit to show off their utmost welcome and respect for visiting families. The rest of the school also dressed up and put on great smiles, enlivening the campus and showcasing the Kent spirit. Moreover, everyone enjoyed a special treat from the food truck—free cream sandwiches and ice creams, a touch to sweeten the Revisit Days.
Simultaneously, the college decision season has arrived, acceptance letters showering down on Kent seniors as reward and recognition for their high school careers. Kent rejoices in sending them off to schools like Stanford, Berkeley, Rice, Northwestern, Bowdoin, and Princeton, even as they, and we, know that their time at Kent is coming to an end very soon.
Combined with the Revisit Days, the celebratory and bittersweet atmosphere of Spring Term grows, as we all anticipate the arrival of new students and cherish the last few months with our graduating class.
