The Kent Girls Varsity Soccer team has been showing impressive improvement this season, stepping onto the field with a new level of confidence and teamwork. Compared to last year, the team feels more connected, more determined, and more aware of how strong they really are. Coach LaCava has noticed this growth too.
“They’ve had good wins and good losses,” Coach LaCava said, including a win over Canterbury and a close 2-1 loss to Berkshire. He also said, “they now believe how good they truly are.”
That belief has been tested. Early in the season, the team lost two of its main players due to injury, which could have changed the momentum completely. But instead of falling back, the players adjusted. They supported one another, shifted positions, and found new ways to play to their strengths. This flexibility and resilience have kept them competitive in every match.
A big part of the team’s success this year comes from how the culture has changed. The focus isn’t just on winning anymore. The players have started to care just as much about growth, teamwork, and effort. Practices are filled with energy and communication, and players make it a priority to lift each other up. They’ve learned that a good season isn’t only measured by the number of wins, but by how much they improve together as a team.
When asked which games he’s most looking forward to, Coach LaCava didn’t name a single opponent. He simply said, “All of them.” He talks about how he feels nervous during warm ups, but once the game starts, he’s pumped up. That answer perfectly sums up this year’s team. They are excited, united, and ready for every challenge that comes their way.
As the season continues, the Kent community can expect to see a team that plays with purpose, pride, and heart.
