Just before the April 10th decision day for admitted families, Kent hosted two revisit days for families of prospective students. The days allowed potential Kent students and their families to be immersed in the welcoming atmosphere of the Kent community.
Incoming students were assigned to a student with similar interests and of the same grade level. Classes throughout the day were shorter, and information sessions were hosted throughout the day for incoming parents when their child is in class. Tours were optional after school if students were interested in the athletic or other facilities.
A new addition to this year’s Revisit Day program was the inclusion of a Community Life (Comm Life) session, which replaced one of the three academic classes guests visited last year. Activities within the smaller groups focused on basic school values and acceptance and included interactive games to allow for initial bonding among future classmates. This addition was seen as positive in creating bonds among students who will become future classmates in the coming fall.
Ms. Michelson, who was the primary architect of the day, said that revisit day is “about making connections, but with a different purpose, really trying to get incoming students to get excited about Kent, but also really envisioning for themselves what the possibilities are here at Kent with our program.”
This year’s Revisit Days saw an overwhelmingly positive response from students and families, and clearly reflected all of Kent’s best qualities. Classroom tours, productive conversations, and happy afternoons spent basking in sunlight in Kent’s grounds allowed potential students to see themselves as respected members of Kent’s community. It is clear, in light of the school’s tireless work to continually build and develop its programs with careful consideration, that Kent takes to heart its role in creating an inviting, approachable, and motivating atmosphere for its future pupils.
