Horseback-riding is one of the few sports that runs all year long at Kent. The Equestrian Team had a strong year with new coach Mr. Whitehead and Co-Captains Maya Karafotas and Annie Shah, who “were elected by the other riders last year at our end of year awards day up at the stables,” said Whitehead.
KSET has had a solid year so far. They entered several competitions which normally take one to two days each. They hosted three shows in the fall and one show in the winter, and they attended two more shows of campus. Whitehead noted that the final show would take place at Kent School on Sunday, May 19th,“rain or shine.”
In addition to regular shows both at home and away, the team offered a two-day clinic with Bernie Traurig, whom Whitehead described as “one of the sports luminaries. It was very well attended and the students got a wonderful opportunity to learn from one of the horse industry’s best.”
Next September, the team will hold another clinic, this time with Peter Wylde, a gold medalist from the Athens Olympic Games. The date is September 28th and will be held in the new state of the art, Lawton Adams-designed outdoor arena.
