Over the course of the spring season, the Varsity Softball team has produced some remarkable results, led by their coach, Mr. Sean Lennon, and their team co-captains, Kennedy Graham, Lainie Hellyar and Izzy Bowler.
One of the great wins of the season was against Choate, but the win that positioned them for the NEPSAC Championship was against Westminster. It was a really close game, but the team kept pushing and won in the fifth inning with a walk-off home run at the end.
The softball team didn’t just win out pure luck – dedication and practice have played a huge part. Coach Lennon said, “Our practices vary from day to day depending on how many games we have in a particular week. Over the past two weeks we have had 8 games. A typical practice would include drills that break down skills such as footwork, speed, agility as well as technical work such as pitching and hitting.”
It is really impressive how dedicated the team is. Said Lennon, “I am most proud of our teams never give up, fight, until the very last pitch in each game. The grit and determination they have up and down our lineup has been tremendous.” Some of the players have been in softball for a whole four years now, and this year is their last; Coach Lennon expressed his appreciation for the culture the long-standing players have created over their time on the team.
We wish our Kent softball team great success for the rest of the season, and we hope they know how proud our school is of the wins they had throughout the season.
