This spring has been a challenging one for Boys Varsity Lacrosse, but a recent win against South Kent, with a score of 11-4, has boosted the team’s spirits. According to Head Coach Wayne Clarke, the team is filled with strong and self-motivated athletes.
Mr. Clarke has been coaching lacrosse for 20 years, but it’s his first year doing so at Kent. Mr. Clarke is proud of the team he has. He said, “Even when we lose a match, the players are eager to learn what they did wrong, so they can come back stronger for the next game.” He explains how every practice they have is filled with drills that involve weaknesses the players had in previous games.
After each game, Mr. Clarke and the lacrosse team watch game film to get a better understanding of what they did well and where they can improve. They try their best to fix the mistakes they made in their previous games during practice. This should help the team for the next couple of games, which, according to Clarke, are going to be difficult ones.
Said Clarke, “All the teams we have to play in the future are top 25 in the country, like Taft and Salisbury.” For the team to do well in the games, Mr. Clark explains how they will practice each player’s weaknesses as much as possible and try their best in each game they have.
