With a group of ambitious and hardworking players, Varsity Golf is looking forward to concluding their season with a strong showing in the Kingswood Oxford Invitational games against other New England prep schools.
Kent’s Golf team typically practices daily at Bull’s Bridge Golf Course, a private golf course located in South Kent. Additionally, during their off-season, players make use of the simulator room to further improve their golf skills. The Varsity team, consisting of 10 players, competes in the Founders League against other prep schools. This year, the team has welcomed valuable additions such as Alex Elia, a PG who has committed to Holy Cross University, and Charlie Qiu, a talented freshman prospect. “There is considerable depth within the team,” remarked Mr. Sokolnicki, the head coach. “It has undoubtedly contributed to our success in various aspects of the game.”
The team has performed well throughout the season, entering the Western New England Prep Golf Invitational at Bulls Bridge Golf Course with a positive record. They secured an impressive 4th place finish out of 16 teams, only 11 points beneath the 2nd place. “I am very proud of the team,” said Mr. Sokolnicki. “The most challenging aspect of golf is maintaining focus, battling yourself mentally, and regaining composure after making a mistake. I believe the team displayed remarkable focus, perseverance, and integrity, truly embodying the Kent spirit!” This Wednesday, the team will participate in the K-O Invitational, which will mark the conclusion of their season. “Anything can happen, so we just need to give our best effort,” added Mr. Sokolnicki.
When asked how students interested in golf should prepare to participate in the sport, Mr. Sokolnicki emphasized the importance of summertime preparation and acquiring a solid understanding of the game’s fundamentals. “While we don’t train beginners, we will welcome any new members who are passionate about golf!” he said.
