Continuing their stellar performance from last year, Kent Varsity Softball girls concluded their season with a strong finish in the NESCAC playoff as a semi-finalist. With hard work on and off the pitch, the team is optimistic about further success next year.
Comparing this season to the previous one, the team maintained their remarkable level of consistency. Many of the players started preparing for the season as early as in the summer, when they participated in summer leagues for softball clubs, honing their skills during the offseason. They continued their improvements during the spring season and the hardwork has paid off into numerous highlights in the season. Notably, Kennedy Graham, the only pitcher on the team, emerged as a standout player, carrying the team with forceful pitches in every game. Izzy Bowler had a grand-slam game-winning home run, as did Lainny Helyar, and Kyle Moreno hit a home run as well. The solid performance of the team made them 4th in the league for the season.
In addition to hard-working players, Coach Wright’s and Coach Lennon’s tactical acumen and targeted training also contributed to the team’s fantastic season. Coaches Wright and Lennon focused training on individual skills and overall team defense in the game. “Pitching plays a crucial role, as a talented pitcher can greatly impact a team’s success,” said Coach Wright. The ability to hit effectively, strong defense, team speed, and chemistry among the players are also decisive factors, and we have all these attributes, which makes us successful.”
Looking ahead to next season, the team will add another skilled pitcher/player, Nora Lennon, to further strengthen our team. While it is important to acknowledge the departing seniors that played a vital role in the team’s achievements, the young blood in the team will undoubtedly continue to contribute to the team’s success next season. The team wanted to continue to improve their speed and optimize their defense as they move into next year. “We are looking forward to another strong year as we contend for the NEPSAC championship,” said Mr. Wright.
