On Saturday, April 27, the Kent girls varsity tennis team took on Westover in a series of successful matches. The team battled in four single-matches and three double-matches.

The girls dominated the courts, and as Coach Ober says, “it was pretty one-sided.”  The girls worked hard and it showed in this match as the Lions finished in a full sweep with a final score of 7-0.

The match started with the singles, with great plays by co-captain Meara Burns ’19, Emma Turner ’21, Lexi Pryor ’21 and Maya Weech ’20.  These girls demonstrated their strength, skill, and strategy to crush their opponents. Coach Ober was happy with the performance and concurred, saying, “the single’s performance was strong.”

The doubles were played by Anna Jang ’22 and Neebeka Saha ’20, Erin Marczewski ’21 and Sonya Ayvazyan ’21, and Mary Watson ’19 and Kingsley Tucker ’21. Anna Jang ’22 and Neebeka Saha ’20 gave an impressive performance, taking many powerful shots that controlled the match.

Even though he was satisfied with their win, Coach Ober is still looking to help the girls improve.  When asked what he is looking to improve, he replies, “even though we won all the matches, we could’ve been a lot stronger.”  He hopes that the girls will become more aggressive in their play.

Coach Ober has high hopes for this team in upcoming years and is looking forward to “developing the younger players” in anticipation for what next year has in store.
