Team spirit reigns on JV field hockey
October 13, 2017
Kent School athletes have no shortage of team spirit and excellent athletes, but few teams take it to the level of our Junior Varsity Field Hockey team. With six seniors on the team this year, assistant coach Mrs. Benjamin is thrilled about the “fantastic senior leadership,” and gives credit to the “great new players who are learning fast.”
In their most recent match against Miss Porter’s the team, led by their three captains Alice Benjamin ’18, Charlotte Hinman ’18, and Gretchen Christophe ’18, took a convincing 6-1 victory, with four different girls, some by players completely new to the game, scoring goals and six different girls providing assists. Mrs. Benjamin gave a shout out for the team’s veteran goalie Kayla Shah ’18: “we are very grateful for [our] awesome returning goalie.” Anyone who goes to one of the team’s games or practices can feel their contagious energy and how much they love playing field hockey with each other.
The team’s energy isn’t limited to the field. This week, without any upcoming games, the team is planning on an off campus team-bonding trip. They plan to go apple picking and to follow it up with a visit to head coach Mrs. Parson’s house to bake apple pies. Mrs. Parson comments, “It’s not all about the wins; it’s all about the fun.”
With such a promising group of athletes who love game and respect their teammates, Kent’s Junior Varsity Field Hockey team looks forward to a great fall season.
