Girls Softball Builds Team Spirit

On April 13th, Varsity Softball played their second game of the season against Westover.  They had lost their first game of the year against Hopkins.

Coming into this season, varsity softball had undergone some major changes in coaching staff, which included the introduction of Mr. Zurolo as the new head coach. So far the atmosphere has been extremely positive, with players cheering each other on during the game and having team bonding off the field.

This unfortunately did not translate to their game as they suffered a tough 12-2 loss to Westover. However, Maddie Griswold, three-year varsity player and two-time captain, says that the team has, “making good adjustments and improvements in the last few weeks”. Many players are playing new positions and she feels that they are starting to getting adjusted to the new system.

Maddie is very much impressed with how close the team is, on and off the field. She said, “I think this is a special team that is awesome and overlooked. They come together despite being from different parts of the school.” She feels that the team needs to work on being good consistently and not making small errors. She is also very happy at how willing the team is to work on their mistakes. Maddie thinks the team environment is good, and people are willing to accept constructive criticism. She feels this attitude will likely lead to the improvement of the team in the future.

In their game against Westover, it was apparent their fighting spirit was there even when down many points. The next game is against Westminster which is expected to be a tough matchup, but after that they have matches against Millbrook and Miss Porter’s which they are much more confident against.
