Boys Basketball Dominates Salisbury

The 2016 varsity boys basketball team, outfitted with five of the most talented starters in the Founders League, has made a habit of excellence.  Their regular game record this season is near perfect, and this is clearly evident when even watching the team  off the court. Jack Stevens ’16, a 6-foot-10 formidable player, and Kena Gilmore ’16, the team’s starting point guard, strike fear into the eyes of the opponent as they enter the gym.

“We really just have the right guys on the team, and that is most important,” Coach Jason Coulombe remarked. “These guys really want to work so hard that often I have to pull back the reigns instead of pushing them to do more.”

On Wednesday, January 6th, the team’s drive was evident in the contest against Salisbury.  What started as a well-matched game ended as a huge victory for Kent.  In the beginning of the game, both teams strove to find the others’ seemingly non-existent weakness.  However, by halftime the Kent team seemed to have hit their stride with a 30-18 lead.

Many attempts were made by Salisbury with a resolute defense and an aggressive offense, but they continued to flounder when faced with Kent’s aggression and determination.  With each passing minute the gap grew between the teams.  From a crowd-pleasing dunk to a near NBA 3-pointer, the boys refused to let up. As the time finally came to an end, Salisbury was only able to put up 42 points against Kent’s 59 in what ended up being a rather easy victory.

“We have learned how to utilize everyone’s individual skill to come together and be something great,” said Daven Rajesh ’16 after the game, summing up his team perfectly.
