This year, Kent News has interviewed the dorm parents of each dorm, asking them about their experiences as dorm residents.
It is Ms. Gualtieri’s 6th year living in Borsdorff with her energetic boxer, Oscar, who will be turning six in December. Her favorite part of living in Borsdorff is the boys themselves, though she admits that sometimes it is a little less charming when “boys act like boys.” One of her favorite memories is the first dodgeball and donuts event. Around town, Ms. G loves visiting KPG, and at Kent, her favorite tradition is Rock Day.
Mrs. Callahan has been a resident of Borsdorff for three years. She lives with her dog Captain and her husband, who is home whenever he’s not away for work training. Mrs. Callahan especially appreciates being in the center of campus, where she gets to know new students who stop by the common room. However, things can get a bit rowdy, which sometimes makes Captain nervous. One of her favorite memories of Bors was watching March Madness on duty last year with a crowd of students. Her local restaurant of choice is Kingsley, and her favorite Kent tradition is Ring Day.
For the past three years, Mr. Tobin has lived in Borsdorff alongside his cat, Sir Cheddar Bob. His favorite part of dorm life is the meaningful relationships he builds with students, though he could do without smelliness. His funniest and most memorable moment was discovering his cat hanging out in students’ rooms. When off campus, Mr. Tobin enjoys dining at Swyft, and on campus, his favorite tradition is Spirit Week.
Currently in his fourth year in Bors (after moving from Hoerle), Mr. Close lives with his wife, Ms. Lovato, and their children, 10-year-old Martha and 7-year-old Oscar. He loves the great location of Borsdorff, though sometimes it might get too hot, and winter pipes can be loud. When thinking back on his time here, some of his favorite memories include the fierce and enthusiastic ping-pong battles in the common room. Like Mr. Tobin, his favorite local spot is also Swyft, and his favorite Kent tradition is Lessons and Carols each Christmas.
