For hockey fans and people full of Kent spirit alike, the girls varsity hockey game against Hill School was the highlight of this past Sunday. The weather outside was just about the same as the weather inside the hockey rink, but we were hopeful, as “we had beat Hill the last time,” Mr. Dunn, assistant coach, recalls.

Beginning with the first period, Millie Rose Sirum ‘19, one out of the seven new students on the team this year, scored first for the day. This was the only goal scored during this period, and it was evident that we were all happy that Kent was in the lead. The second goal was made by Tina Paolillo ‘18, the captain of the team. Julia DiNapoli ‘19, also made a clear shot.

By the end of period two, the score was 5:0 Kent. When it came time for the third period, the stands were fuller, as more students and faculty came to see how it all ended. Millie Rose Sirum made another goal, and one point was earned for Hill. The game ended at 6:1 Kent.

When asked how it felt to win the game against Hill yesterday, Assistant Coach Ed Dunn said, “It felt good, because we played a pretty solid game, and also we were were playing without Julia Nearis, who’s an important part of our offense. The kids did a solid job…We’re 3:0 now, and I think we’re playing pretty well. It was a good win.”

Now after seeing the girls play a few games, Coach Dunn says a lot of the focus will be on “what Coach Rousseau talks about a lot: we want to become as consistent as possible. Consistency is a huge part of being a good team. Mr. Rousseau says if we play really well on the defensive zone, we have a chance to win every game, and I agree with that 100%.” Coach Dunn concluded, “we’ve got a pretty talented team, we should be alright.”
