From October 20th to the 22nd, 1300 Gilmore Girls fans came to the town of Kent for the second annual GIlmore Girls Fan Fest. The fan fest held in Kent because it was reminiscent of Stars Hallow, the small fictional town where Gilmore Girls was filmed.

There were three groups of actors and moderators who talked about their experiences filming. They also answered questions from the audience about themselves and the show. According to Sam Thompson ’19 who attended a panel commented, “I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was more familiar with the show, but I’m sure it was super cool for all the die hard fans.”

The fans loved the panels. Amy Montera, 51, from Cary, North Carolina says, “I’ve been here since Friday! I can’t pinpoint one favorite event, but I really like the panels. They have either the writers, directors, cast members, and they ask them questions about the show. It’s really cool and fun to hear about how much they loved working on the show and loved the other cast members.”

When asked about her favorite character, Montera responded, “Probably Lorelai, the Mom. She was quirky, and it was easy for everyone to relate to her. She was endearing and fun to watch.” Lauren, 25, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Darlene, 29, from Long Island said, “Lane Kim, I think she is so fun! It’s just the way she could hide things from her very, very strict mother, while her friend, April Ruiz, a Yale Professor said, “Paris, Paris! She takes no prisoners, she knows what she wants, and she’ll plow right ahead!”

The event created lots of noise in the usually quiet town of Kent. There was more traffic and pedestrians walking around the town, and students experienced longer wait times at restaurants in town during the weekend. And the fans were definitely noticeable; their themed shirts could be seen from a mile away.
