Girls Swimming Hosts Hotchkiss

This past Wednesday, February 8, the Kent girls swim team hosted Hotchkiss at home for their final meet heading into the championship season. Coach Zurolo noted that the team was “coming off of long weekend and had not been in the water for 4 days.” They weren’t expecting much due to the time out of the pool, however “we had a lot of personal bests and a lot of really great times” according to Junior Captain Lucy Freidenrich. Lucy also noted that “Kent fought hard, but Hotchkiss had an olympic swimming coach” and ultimately came out on top. The end result of the meet was Kent-75, Hotchkiss-101.

Coach Zurolo and Lucy both spoke about the successful season the team has had so far. Mrs. Zurolo talked about how the girls have been doing some co-ed training this year, and how it has really brought the teams together. The girls team had their swimsuits monogramed ‘Em’ for this meet to celebrate the life of Emelia Worth, who had been a member of the boys swim team.

Kent will be preparing for the championships over the next couple of weeks. Mrs. Zurolo talked about how over “the past few days we have gone back up in our yardage to get some good work in so that we have a good strong base to do our taper from.” The taper process starts on Monday for the Kent Girls Swim team.

The team has had really great attitudes this season and has been really close. “Everybody seems to get along, and they are super supportive of each other about everything, academics, social life, and swimming,” according to coach Zurolo. The team works hard every day with a very close knit group of girls. Zurolo claims that this has really improved their season, meets, and attitudes. Good luck to Kent divers on February 22nd, and Swimmers on February 25th in the Founders league meet, and New England’s the following week.
