On Saturday, January 9th, Kent boys varsity hockey faced off against Loomis Chaffee in arguably one of the toughest games of the season. Said Coach Dale Reinhardt that the game would “all boil down to the team’s work ethic and what the boys are willing to do to succeed.”

Period one started off with Kent winning the faceoff, which gave the team good forward momentum, allowing Andrew Rinaldi ’17 to take a shot at 17:12. Twelve seconds later at exactly 17 minutes to the end of the first period, Loomis scored. Switching from an offensive to a defensive game, Peter Negron ‘17 saved a big attempt on goal at 11:46 and another at 9:03. With Kent trying to work their offensive game, at exactly the seven-minute mark Loomis broke through the defensive line, firing it off towards the goal. With the shot bouncing off the post, Kent tried hard to push Loomis back into the neutral zone.

The second period started off similarly to the first with Loomis scoring on Kent at 17:26. Kyle Delmaestro ’17 had a great attempt at 16:56 and thirty seconds later a Loomis attempt was blocked again by Negron. Jack Bloem ’17 had another attempt on the Loomis goal at 15:28. Two minutes later, there was a brief scuffle on the ice before Captain Greg Krisberg ’16 took a good shot at 13:00 and another at 6:40. At the end of the second period, the score was Loomis 2, Kent 0.

Kent came out five minutes before the third period started, skating onto the ice looking serious. With Kent winning the face off, Loomis’s momentum was crushed and at 16:51, Gustav Lundin ’17 scored. Negron saved an enormous shot again by Loomis at 12:52. Krisberg played great defense and at 8:42 attempted to score but missed the corner of the net slightly. Negron again deflected at shot at 6:17, with another fight nearly breaking out shortly after. Krisberg again attempted at three minutes until the end of the period a powerful shot but again missed the mark. Again Kent blocked one more attempt at 3:29, which triggered a rough back and forth between the two teams.

With the Kent goalie off the ice, Kent tried to gain the offensive position but failed. At 37.9 seconds left, Loomis scored a third time. The final score was 3:1.
