Dance Recital Blows Audience Away

On November 10 and 11, the annual Fall dance concert took place in Mattison Auditorium. The talents of many exceptional performers were showcased, with a variety of different genres and styles. This year, the dance directors decided to challenge the student choreographers by asking them to incorporate the theme of “possibility” in their dances.

The dancers took it in their own hands to interpret possibility in its various forms. Among the dances, the piece called Let It Go, performed by Carly Mitchell ’21, Connie Tu ’21, Diana Finkel ’21 and Jana Wong ’21, used the theme “possibility” to “encourage people to think about their potential and to release what holds them back,” says Ms. Morris.

Ms. Morris also expressed great enthusiasm towards the “very sophisticated and entertaining” piece Shhh… choreographed by Lara Li ’19, which interprets the theme through exploring possible turns of events that go unnoticed.

This year, many new faces took to the stage, and as Ms. Morris confidently explained, “we love new faces!” She was amazed by Carly Mitchell ’22, who has never danced before.

“She’s an incredibly talented musician and music editor. She cut and edited most of the songs for the show, but she also established herself as a highly musical dancer.”

Another member, Veronika Borukha ’22, is also completely new to dance. Ms. Morris commented, “[Veronika] brought a lot of joy to dance. She was a lighthearted and buoyant personality in dance.” The two dance captains, Li and Sarah Choi ’19, were delighted to welcome the new members and spent the Fall term working hard to put forth a truly wonderful dance recital.
