Artist Profile: Stanley Hsia ’19

Stanley Hsia ’19, from Taiwan, is one of Kent’s most accomplished artists. His art, defined by its unique and fantastical portrayal of people and objects, speaks directly to his person as a whole. Well-dressed and contemplative, Hsia’s outlook on life itself translates seamlessly into his creations. Stanley has pursued this craft for many years and hopes to incorporate art into his future as well.

Coming to Kent as a new sophomore, Hsia has been an active participant in the after-school art studio each year. Though he has never taken an art class as part of his academic schedule, Hsia has honed his craft independently during his own free time. He has been doing art “since before he could remember,” both at school and at home. Hsia describes his style of drawing as “realistic people with contemporary and unreal influences.”

When asked about his prou est accomplishment in art, Hsia cites a portrait he made for his mother; not only did he win local awards for the drawing, but he also has a special connection to the work itself.

Hsia does not plan on pursuing a career in art directly, as he sees more opportunity for advancement in more lucrative fields that apply his aestheticism. Although he plans on continuing art as a hobby, Hsia hopes to pursue a career in fashion marketing. As his Instagram account demonstrates, his clothing style is incredibly modern and unique; he is consistently well-dressed and has a contemporary, yet classic, touch. He believes that a career in fashion marketing would allow him to combine his passion for fashion and art with business and advertising. Hsia’s presence on campus is defined by his minimalist style, brooding yet introspective personality, and his beautiful drawing style. He will definitely become a name to look out for in the future.
