Sprinting, sweating, and slapshotting only begin to encompass the hard work and grit Kent’s girls varsity hockey team has put into this winter. Skating through an undefeated season, the team finished as the clear Champion of the Founder’s League. Ranked #1 in New England, the Lions took on – and defeated – Loomis Chaffee at home on Wednesday, March 4th in front of a huge crowd of family, friends, and the occasional scout.

As the first Kent girls varsity hockey team to ever have an undefeated season, the girls have already accomplished an enormous feat. Their success, however, is impressive because it not only demonstrates the immense talent of the team, but also has motivated them to strive for more. As half of the roster is filled with new members, no one could have guessed the outcome of the season, but there’s not much that could have gone better.

Between positive energy, undeniable talent, and well-meshed chemistry,

Captain Elena Gualtieri ’15 reflects that this season has been a “combination of diligence and dedication, but mostly teamwork.” The team exuded an effort that any one individual could not have achieved. “Working cohesively as a group and striving for excellence,” Gualtieri says, “has worked in our favor and made us not just a team, but a family.”

As they have done all season, the girls will step on the ice at Nadal Rink this coming Saturday, March 7th (to take on Pomfret in the New England Class-A Semi-Finals) with the mindset to do whatever it takes, the mantra that hangs seen in their locker room. Now that these Lions are ready to fight harder than they have in any 19 games of the season, let’s do whatever it takes to support them!
