This year the boys JV basketball has been lighting up the court with 9 straight wins to start the season, proving that they are obviously a force to be reckoned with in the league.

Unfortunately, in a battle against Taft on Wednesday, February 18th, the boys lost their first game. However, the team has won against Taft in a previous game when an impressive shot was made by Kent and the Lions earned the close win due to a clock error. It was the start of an exciting rivalry, which made the first loss of the season tougher to bear.

While the team shows an impressive amount of skill on the court, they also exceed the standards of athleticism and teamwork. Coach Wettach says, “Most of these boys are varsity athletes in other sports and it’s nice to see them compete at something different at the JV level. They are there for fun.”

The team, led by Coaches Wettach and Voorhees, also adds a spiritual aspect to basketball, including going together on a spirit walk. On the walk, they connected as a team and found their “spirit animals” together. The team bonding is a huge part of the game. Tyler Holder ‘18 says, “My favorite part of practice is being with my team. We work so well together because we are close-knit.”

While most teams have odd rituals before games, this team plays a round of the popular game Trivia Crack together to get ready. Hopefully the boys will answer correctly for their next game, a tough match against Hotchkiss, after which the boys finish off the season with games against TP and Westminster.
