Despite the popular conception that cats hate the water, many of the Kent Lions are exceptionally skillful on the aquatic playing field. Recording only one loss so far this season, the Kent boys swimming and diving team is making a splash in the Founders League and all through New England.

“The Boys Swimming and Diving team has had an excellent first half of the season,” says Mr. Kevin Saxton, Head Coach for the boys team. According to coach Saxton, “a talented veteran group” continues to lead and “set high expectations” for the novice members of the team during practices and in meets.

The line of established elites, including George Chen ’15, Hiro Kamei ’15, and Ryder Sammons ’15, have been supported by a strong line of teammates who make impressive contributions. Perhaps, however, the new and younger athletes have made the most impressive progress during this season.

The Kent boys are making strong strides towards victory because although perceived as individual-focused sport, swimming and diving require a sturdy base of team effort. Because the Lions work collectively as a team, they were able to have such a remarkable and noteworthy season.

In this season, two team records have been broken. Diver Ryder Sammons ’15 broke the first record for total points achieved in 6 dives, while Hiro Kamei ’15 broke the 500 freestyle record, Kent’s longest standing swimming record. Kamei already holds the 100 breast stroke record.

Overall, this season’s team is seeing great success. Having won three consecutive titles for Division II New England Championships, our boys are optimistic and hopeful to once again bring home another big win!
