Brian Kim, Squad Reporter

Jitty Synn ’15 is a recognized violinist and musician at Kent. Many students like her for her friendliness and generosity. Yet not many students know about her music career, which began when she was in 5th grade.

“I actually started off with the piano,” says Synn. “But then when I tried violin, I just felt more comfortable and felt that it was my instrument. I loved the sound and the comfort it gave me.” She humbly discussed many of her awards, mostly 1st place, in many out of school competitions. However, one of the most remarkable and memorable experiences in her music career, she said, was her “debut performance at Carnegie Hall in 2011.” Then she expanded on her achievements, including winning 1st prize for a competition and performed at Lincoln Center. She added, “with the recommendation from Mrs. Hobbs, I was nominated and picked by the Honors Performance Series to perform in Carnegie Hall again.”

Synn also performs in front of Kent and faculty members. She is the first chair at Kent Orchestra along with Sue Yeon Woo. As the first chair, she takes great responsibility in leading others in the orchestra and guiding them.

Synn says that she “would love to continue my music career in college and maybe even after college,” and says that she may “minor in music in college,” but that the main reason she performs to “give other people hope and joy.”
