Musician Profile: Tiger Li 18

As shown through his continued involvement in programs at Kent and through personal endeavors, Tiger Li ‘18 has a true passion for music. He sings in the Kent Choir, the Kentones, and takes part in the musical, Jazz Combo and Jazz Band. Not only does he play the harmonica, and both the acoustic and electric guitar, but he has also pursued an independent study in creating music.

Ever since he started learning how to play the guitar in eighth grade, Tiger has been enamored with music. A year later, he fell in love with creating his own music after listening to artists such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith. Since then, he has developed an interest in various genres, including Electronic Dance Music (EDM). As a Kent student, Tiger has produced at least fifteen original songs and countless remixes using FL Studios.

His recent project, tentatively named “Everything,” has been “one of [his] favorites.” As one of the works for his independent study, this song has a catchy tune and draws lyrical inspiration from his own experiences. All of his works are going to be posted on SoundCloud, through the link, https://soundcloud.com/tigerr-tgr. From singing to playing to producing, each song is created entirely by Tiger himself.

Tiger has been an active member of the Kent musical community as well. He has performed in multiple coffee houses, playing songs such as “How Would You Feel” by Ed Sheeran, and volunteered to play guitar in this year’s musical production. He has also performed and competed with both the choir and Kentones.

On top of his commitment to the different musical ensembles, Tiger will be working on many projects this school year. He hopes to finish four more full length pieces before the academic year ends. He will also be performing at the upcoming coffeehouse, the talent show, the concert, and the musical.
