Football faces Suffield Academy

On Saturday, September 16, Kent’s varsity football team rallied against a domineering Suffield team. There were hard hits and great catches; but with many of their players out with injuries, the Kent boys took an unfortunate 31-7 loss. When asked about the loss, head coach Wells explains, “Suffield plays in a different league than we do, and our lower depth showed as the game went on.”

The first quarter was very defensive for both teams. Suffield committed an early turnover, giving Kent an opportunity to score, but Kent could not capitalize on it. Kent punted on each drive that they had during the first quarter. Suffield, like Kent, also punted often, but they managed to put up ten points with a touchdown and a field goal.

Similarly to the first quarter, Kent’s offense seemed lost during the second. Most drives had incomplete passes, and it was tough for them to get a first down. On the other side of the ball, Suffield was in control. They scored two consecutive touchdowns without an answer from Kent. And by the end of the third quarter, the score was 24-0

The third quarter was even worse for Kent as Suffield proved that they can both pound the ball on the running game and pass it too. Despite this, Kent only let Suffield score once by the end of the third, making the game 31-0.

The fourth quarter was Kent’s best. They did not allow Suffield to score at all and forced them to punt on all of their downs. Even better, Kent managed to score a touchdown, bringing the final score to 31-7. Despite their loss, the Kent boys held their heads high and respectfully shook the Suffield players’ hands.
