On Wednesday February 8th, the Kent girls hockey team faced Canterbury school and came away with a strong 4-0 victory, bringing their total win count to 13 for the season.

The game started off pretty slowly; the defense of both teams meant that neither scored in the first period. The Kent girls however, showed dominance and kept possession for a lot of the period; they made 11 shots versus Canterbury’s 1.

Going into the second period, both sides were eager to put numbers on the board, and the first goal came three minutes in from Kent’s number 9, Lizzie Gross. About five minutes later, another goal for Kent, this time from Ashley McDonald. Kent ended the 2nd period with a 2-0 lead against Canterbury. In the final period, Kent managed to score another 2 times, with goals from Meara Burns and Cec Ehrhard to end the game with a solid 4-0 win.

Following their decisive victory, senior captain Jessye Ebzery ‘17 said “we were ready for Canterbury to play hard as they always do, when they face us. Our team really came together today and improved on a lot of things we had been working on over the past few days, which is exciting looking towards our final few weeks.”

Having won 13 games this season the girls are hoping to finish this season strong, with another five to go. Team manager Collette Glass ‘17 says that “the team takes it day by day and only focuses on the day’s work ahead of us.” The girls will now be back to training, improving on lessons learned on Wednesday and preparing for their game next week.
