Construction of new Racquet Center well underway

Expected to be completed during the fall of 2017, eight brand new international squash courts are currently under construction on the north side of the tennis courts. Although construction only started after winter term, “The idea has been around for years,” said Mr. Marble. “People have known that we have needed the new facility, so it really began to take traction when we were getting further outpaced by our competitors because of the lack of good courts.”

But all this construction is not just solely for squash, as with the new building comes a new racquet center that will combine tennis and squash under the same roof. Mr. Marble truly believes that “we will have the finest racquet facility combining squash and tennis in any school in the region.”

The greatest changes to this new facility is bringing our court size in line with those of our competitor schools, as well as the additions of bathrooms, showers and a display case that the old squash courts lacked. Previously players needed to exit the squash building and enter the main gymnasium for bathroom or water breaks. Outdoor tennis courts will also be moved around.

When asked about future plans for the old squash courts, Mr Marble commented that a good goal would be to turn it into, “a general indoor area for ball sports such as baseball, softball and golf, as they are currently lacking an area to be able to hit balls year-round.”
