Artist Profile: Austen Stockdale

Victor Lara

Austen Stockdale ’17 first came to Kent as a 4th former in the fall of 2014, eager to take advantage of the opportunities around him. He discovered his passion for art in the painting class he took in the winter and spring of 2015, and towards the end of the year, Ms. Brody offered him the opportunity to join AP Studio Art the following year.

As a 5th former, Stockdale further developed and explored his abilities on canvas and in the studio. In his AP Studio Art class, he decided to create a concentration on households. He also created a few works on animals, especially birds, as well as some abstract pieces.

When asked what inspires his creativity, Stockdale answered, “I try to explore my surroundings until I find the most beautiful landscapes. I also get inspiration from the places I visit in my vacations.”

Stockdale, now back at Kent for his 6th form year, is looking forward to “creating artwork and living his Kent life to the fullest.” He plans to continue exploring art and pushing his boundaries by focusing on the bodies of water that surround the Kent area.

Though a committed artist, Stockdale tries to improve his Kent experience by participating in all that Kent has to offer. In the fall, when he is not painting, he spends his time at South Fields, leading his fellow teammates as captain of the boys varsity soccer team.
